City to engage public on Promotion of Access to Information Act

The City of Cape Town’s Legal Services Department, via its Access to Information Unit, will be hosting a public Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) Awareness Campaign at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Monday, 30 September 2024. Members of the public are encouraged to attend to learn more about their rights to access information that is held by the government.
The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) is South Africa's access to information law that enables people to gain access to information held by both public and private bodies.
The details of the public awareness session are as follows:

Venue: Cape Town, Civic Centre, 12 Hertzog Boulevard, Concourse Level (2nd Floor)
The purpose of the awareness campaign is to inform members of the public of their rights in terms of PAIA. A dedicated team of City staff will have pamphlets and brochures available on the second floor of the Civic Centre and will be on standby to share more information on rights to access City records and the procedural requirements to do so.
Members of the public will also be exposed to the City’s dedicated Walk-In Public Interface Office, the ‘Access to City Records’ office, which is also located on the Civic Centre’s concourse level.
